Remote Sensing & Photogrammetry

These technologies allow us to rapidly obtain non-contact measurements of 2D or 3D surfaces. In addition to linear distance measurements, attributes such as vegetation type, land cover and loading can be obtained and analyzed.

RFI utilizes PhotoModeler and Autodesk VIZ software to rapidly and accurately calculate measurements and create 2D and 3D models from oriented photographs. Visual models and photogrammetry can accelerate the workflow of a project and provide excellent base data.

Benefits of Photogrammetry & Remote Sensing Include:
Non-contact measurements - measured due to safety concerns, access issues, or if the object is fragile or not suitable for contact measurement methods.

Rapid Data Collection & Processing
Data collection in the field is facilitated by skilled operators and cutting-edge equipment.
The total amount of field work necessary to measure the facade of an entire building can be measured in hours rather than days. In addition, high-resolution images are recorded, measurements and models can be generated on an as-needed basis.

High Accuracy
Depending on the equipment used measurements and models generated by RFI have accuracies ranging from 1 in 750 to 1 in 20000. That is, an object 10 feet wide will be accurate to within 0.16” to 0.0006”.

RFI compiled this VFRDB to assess wildland fire fuel loading for the state of Rhode Island Department of Environemntal Management.

Over 3000 VFRDB locations were sampled and analyzed for fuel loading. In addition, RFI made a hazard assessment using the fuel load data collected, topography, climate data and road networks .
